Governor commends Rochester Museum of Fine Arts for 10th Anniversary

Published on

2022 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, an all-volunteer, community art initiative dedicated to the accessibility of contemporary works in public spaces.

To honor the occasion, Governor Chris Sununu sent an official commendation congratulating the organization on its many artistic contributions to the people of Rochester.

In the commendation, Sununu stated that the RMFA has “significantly enhanced the artistic, cultural, and visual landscape of the region” and has “become a leader in the effort to revitalize Rochester by presenting a wide variety of art and fostering the understanding of works of art.”

“As the RMFA concludes the celebration of its 10th anniversary, I commend you for all that you have done to add to the arts community in Rochester,” said Sununu. “I wish you continued success as you head into your eleventh year.”

Throughout the museum’s history, volunteers have worked to positively enhance spaces in the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center and Public Library by curating a diverse collection of donated works, temporary art exhibits, as well as many public art installations and murals around the city.

Notable past exhibits include Susan Kare, pioneering graphic interface designer for Apple’s first Macintosh computer; Eric Carle, beloved author and illustrator of The Tiny Seed, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and many more; Wayne White, painter, puppeteer, EMMY Award-winning set designer for Pee Wee’s Playhouse; Robert Indiana, creator of the iconic LOVE sculpture and postage stamp; Bob Gruen, legendary rock ’n roll photographer for John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Sex Pistols, and many more.

The RMFA is located within the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center at 150 Wakefield Street, Rochester, NH, behind Spaulding High School. Suite 135 is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. Visit www.rochestermfa.org to learn more.

The museum is sponsored by the City of Rochester, Rochester Main Street, Waterstone Properties Group, Bernier Insurance, Meredeth Village Savings Bank, MacEdge, Lenharth Systems, and the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.
