On Monday, June 8, 2026, the City of Rochester hosted a dedication ceremony at City Hall to rename Shaw Park to Veterans Park.
Located between City Hall and the Fire Department, the park was originally named to honor former Rochester Mayor John Shaw. However, City Council recently moved to rename the park to honor Rochester Veterans, as the location already includes tributes to Veterans of WWI and WWII.
The stone monument has been refurbished to include a new plaque showcasing the new name that includes the following inscription: “Dedicated to Rochester residents who served their community, and country in the United States Armed Forces.”

The dedication ceremony was open to the public. Mayor Chuck Grassie joined members of the Rochester City Council, the Rochester Veterans Council, and Vouchers for Veterans for the unveiling of the new monument. The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce was also on hand to conduct a special ribbon-cutting.
