FYI: Winter Parking Bans, Snow Removal and Ice Control

Published on

Snow and ice can create difficulties for residents, businesses, and travelers.  Please keep in mind a few important notes as City personnel work to ensure the safety of all our roads, sidewalks, and public grounds.

The City’s goal, as outlined in the Snow Removal & Ice Control Policy, is to provide timely, efficient, and cost-effective winter maintenance, snow removal and ice control on municipal roadways for the safety and benefit of residents and motorists.

During a snowstorm or ice event, a City-wide Parking Ban may be issued to facilitate plowing and winter maintenance operations. After a storm, a Downtown Parking Ban may be issued to remove snow from streets and walkways. In both cases, please refer to the Snow Removal Downtown Parking Ban Map. Exemption requests may be submitted to the Police Department.

E-alerts are sent out whenever there is a Snow Removal Parking Ban. Residents are encouraged to sign up for City News & Announcements on the E-alerts subscription page.

The City of Rochester maintains nearly 235 miles of road and 30 miles of sidewalk each winter. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we strive to maintain all the public ways for safe travel.
