Rochester Public Library Introduces “Library of Things” Lending Program

Published on

The Rochester Public Library is expanding its services with the all-new “Library of Things”, a collection that allows patrons to borrow more than just books, magazines, and movies.

According to Library Director Marie Lejuene, the new collection is a “great way to try things out without having to buy them yourself.”

“Most of us have bought things for a specific use, or because we are convinced we’ll use them a lot, only to end up with them sitting in the basement collecting dust,” said Lejeune. “The Library of Things saves you money and storage space!”

To kick off the new service, the library will be hosting a “Library of Things Petting Zoo” on Tuesday, February 18, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, in the Community Room. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the collection and learn how to borrow items.

Currently, a dozen objects are available for borrowing, including:

  • Cornhole set
  • Ukulele starter kit
  • Karaoke machine
  • Metal detector
  • Home theater projector
  • Telescope

The list of “Things” offered will expand, based on community interest and feedback. Items from this collection will circulate for 1 week and be eligible for 1 renewal as long as there are no holds.
