Rochester Public Library’s Stuffed Animal Sleepover Extended Due to Winter Storm

Published on

The recent winter storm unexpectedly extended the stuffed animal sleepover event hosted by the Children’s Room at the Rochester Public Library. Originally planned for just a night, the closure forced librarians to entertain dozens of stuffed companions for an entire weekend.

With the library closed for the scheduled pick-up day, librarians ensured that the 36 stuffed friends had an enjoyable time exploring the premises. Activities ranged from games like tag and hide-and-seek to riding in the elevator. Before retiring for the night, Children’s Librarians Jenn and Christina shared bedtime-themed stories.

“Families were kept updated during the snowy weekend through social media posts,” said Christina Paquette, Children’s Librarian. “The event was a true testament to the bond between our library and the community we serve.”

On Monday children were reunited with their stuffed friends and each attendee went home with a book-themed blanket and sleep mask, courtesy of Alliance Dental Care, along with dental hygiene supplies. Progressive Food Inc./Dunkin’s donated munchkins for families to enjoy.

“Lizzy, a 46-year-old stuffed monkey, and the most mature ‘stuffie’ in attendance, was impressed with how well-behaved the group was,” remarked Kathrine, Patron Services Supervisor. “It was heartwarming to witness the trust the children placed in us by leaving their loved ones under our care.”

Paquette says that the sleepover provided unexpected amusement and strengthened the bond between the library and its youngest patrons, stating “The Rochester Public Library looks forward to hosting more events for the community in the future.”
